Ensure your pond has the accurate salinity levels to help maintain a healthy environment. By monitoring this with the KoiMedic you will be able to eliminate most parasites, control the growth of algae and detoxify nitrite.
The KoiMedic is water resistant and simple to use, all you need to do is turn it on and dip into the pond water to test the concentrations. Measurements are provided in units of percentage of salt concentration as well as parts per thousand (ppt) of salt concentration in water.
Why is maintaining the balance of salt concentration in my pond important?
Most fish have an internal salt concentration of 1.0% which is of a higher salinity than its environment. However if the water is actually higher than the fish tissues then water will be extracted from the fish, causing dehydration. Controlling the concentration also helps to eliminate harmful parasites.
How often should I use the KoiMedic?
Every time you add salt to the water. Periodic checks are also important as the salinity of the water can be affected by dry or wet weather conditions.
